Spring has sprung in Noosa, and we've found a whole host of reasons for you to head our way for a holiday.

Indulge your tastebuds at Noosa’s award winning restaurants or cruise to Calypso music along the Noosa River.

Those with a passion for classic cars, colourful kites or vibrant floral art will also be looked after.

Last but not least, film buffs are catered for too with an extraordinary flick fest happening right here in Noosa! Best of all, we've got a great suggestion to help Mum and Dad take some romantic time out together during these September school holidays.

CUISINE

 Love Berries

Strawberries…they are considered by many to be the most romantic fruit of all. In fact, they’ve long been a symbol of love due to their heart shape, red colour and sumptuous flavour.

September is the very best time of year to feast on these beautiful berries and it just so happens that this part of the world is home to some of the sweetest ones around.

You’ll find loads of strawberries at the Noosa Farmers Market or Eumundi Markets, or head straight to the farm to pick your own - where else but ‘Strawberry Lane’ in Eumundi!

Legend has it that if you break a double strawberry in half and share it with someone, you're both destined to fall in love! What better place to try your luck in love than Noosa?

Restaurants Rule

Visitors and locals have always known that Noosa's restaurants rule, but now it's official with a swag of recent awards presented to some of our stand out spots.

More than 15 of our restaurants were recognised at this year’s Sunshine Coast Restaurant and Catering Queensland Hostplus Awards, including Lindoni’s, Muse, Wasabi, The Spirit House, Rococo and Zachary’s Gourmet Pizza Bar.

The driving force behind Japanese restaurant Wasabi, Danielle Gjestland, also recently took Noosa to the national stage, winning the 2009 Electrolux Appetite for Excellence Awards Young Restaurateur of the Year - a fantastic achievement for this long time favourite that recently moved into stunning new premises on the Noosa River.

Continuing the national accolades, Wasabi, and the popular Berardo’s Restaurant & Bar, were also recently named as two of Australia’s 50 great restaurants by The Weekend Australian. This ‘A-list’ is based on more than just the end culinary product – it considers a leading attitude, strong identity and sense of fun. Great to see Noosa recognised in such a distinguished field!

And, if you're in Noosa on 28 September, sample Berardo's for yourself at a special lunch with Chef and TV personality Matt Moran, here to launch his new book and share trade secrets over a three-course meal.

CULTURE

 Cruising to the music

What does Caribbean Calypso music have to do with the Noosa River? Well there’s one way to find out and that’s to hop on board a Catalina Cruise.

Not only do you get to dance to the infectious beat of a live pan steel drum band but you can also watch the sun setting over Noosa as you cruise downstream.

With mild temperatures and perfect weather, September is a wonderful time of year to be on the river. Noosa’s Calypso cruises depart every Thursday evening and remember - conga line participation is compulsory on this cruise!

Manhattan Flicks

The J theatre in Noosa will be one of only nine venues in Australia offering film buffs the chance to participate in the 2009 Manhattan Film Festival.

With films from Spain, Mozambique, Sweden, Italy and France, the festival sees 12 finalist flicks being screened in 150 venues around the world, including Noosa!

Audiences are given voting cards and the results are sent back to base electronically with the winner announced after the final screening.

This year’s entries cover a range of topics that aim to unite viewers across the globe. To see the films and be part of this ground-breaking arts event on Saturday 26 September, head to The J website.

ACTION

Bristol Beauties

They may not be as well known as Porche or Jaguar, but English company Bristol has been creating automobile beauties since 1947 and a host of these vehicles will be on display at this year’s Noosa Beach Classic Car Show.

If you’ve ever wondered why Bristol makes cars that look like they could fly – it’s because the company began as an aeroplane manufacturer. The result - sleek vehicles and powerful engines.

But it won’t just be Bristol-mobiles on show at this year’s event. There’ll be more than 300 classic cars from Ferrari to Lamborghini and Aston Martin to Corvette.

Find out why this event has become one of the most prestigious classic car showcases in the country by heading to Noosa Heads Lions' Park on Sunday 27 September.

Noah’s Ark

We may have had some warm weather here in Noosa lately but if a flood of biblical proportions should arrive, we'll be prepared!

Noah and his ark are on the way and they’re docking at The J, in Noosa Junction, for a magical theatre performance that is sure to keep the kids high and dry…as well as entertained.

This production has it all – wise old men, angels, debt collectors, special effects and a cast of colourful creatures.

There’ll be loads of audience participation to keep the kids onboard throughout the performance which takes place at  The J on Thursday 1 October.

NATURE

 Kite Festival

Most people picture a traditional diamond shape when they think of kites but the Coolum Kite Festival will prove that these flying contraptions come in all shapes and sizes from giant octopi to massive mermaids!

Hundreds of kites will take to the skies above Coolum on the first weekend of October for this annual festival which attracts more than 40,000 kite lovers and spectators.

There’ll be kite surfing demonstrations, kite making workshops plus a bunch of fun activities and entertainment for the kids…all topped off by a spectacular fireworks display! Click here for more details.

Floral Art

We’re not quite sure if it’s Spring or Summer here in Noosa with the high temps of late but one thing is for certain – our native flowers are in full bloom!

Forest Boronia, Sun Orchids, Wedding Bush and Vanilla Lilies are splashing vibrant streaks of colour across our local landscape and the best thing about September is that you can enjoy these flowers both inside and out.

‘Flora’ is an exhibition at the Noosa Regional Gallery featuring works by Anna Varendorff, Barbara Hart, Carole Roberts, Cathy Keys, Dean Phipps and more.

Celebrating the flower in larger than life status, these artists will pay tribute to native blooms through a variety of art forms and genres. More details at the Noosa Regional Gallery website.
