Airport joins forces with Jetstar to sponsor SLSC Nipper Clubs

The Sunshine Coast Nippers and what they stand for in terms of fun, energetic, safe and smart lifestyle activity matches the brands of the Sunshine Coast Airport and Jetstar. The combined $40,000 sponsorship that rolls out over two volunteer surf lifesaving club seasons supports the community and our future generations and will assist in providing uniforms, surf and beach equipment as well as prizes for the 15 clubs spanning from Redcliffe to Rainbow Bay, training thousands of local kids in water safety education.

Sunshine Coast Airport General Manager, Peter Pallot said that "apart from supporting the volunteer surf life saving season we are generating brand exposure for both the Airport and the Airline," he said.

Jetstar Chief Executive Officer Bruce Buchanan said the Airline recognised the opportunities offered with the sponsorship of the Nipper clubs on the Sunshine Coast.  "We are supporting a wonderful cause and alongside the Sunshine Coast Airport will have brand exposure every week on the beaches within one of our important target markets," Bruce Buchanan said.

The partnership will provide uniforms and beach equipment for the Nippers, including:

  • Sunshine Coast Airport/Jetstar branded water safety rashies and caps to be worn by instructors from each club at Sunday training sessions and at Sunshine Coast carnivals.
  • Branded tear drop banners with club names to be used each Sunday to assist with beach activities and safety training.  These will also be used to identify clubs at interclub and interbranch carnivals.
  • Prizes for the top three finishing clubs at the end of each of the seasons.

Masterplan Implementation Project - Moving Ahead

Sunshine Coast Mayor Bob Abbot said the new airport team had commissioned technical experts AeCom and Arup to start investigations around the delivery of a new runway, which was a key element in the 2007 Airport Master Plan.  "This is a very early but essential stage in planning for a new runway and will contribute to the development of a preliminary design" Councillor Abbot said.  "A new runway has been identified as a catalytic project that would bring significant economic benefit to the entire region" he said.  "However this initial planning and investigative stage will enable us to advance our understanding of the opportunities and constraints around the proposed project".

Sunshine Coast Airport General Manager Peter Pallot said the preliminary investigations are expected to take around six months.  "The initial advice statement is an information gathering process that will inform all levels of government of the potential environmental, social and economic impacts of the project" Mr Pallot said.  "From this the relevant federal and state government departments will set the terms of reference for an environmental impact study" he said.

Major Projects portfolio chair and Division 8 Councillor Debbie Blumel said this is the first critical step in the implementation of the materplan and it demonstrates the professional management of the airport.  "I commend the Airport General Manager and his team in their continued good management to ensure the airport's masterplan is delivered within the targeted timeframe" Cr Blumel said.  "This initial information gathering process builds upon existing relationships from ongoing engagement with the broader community" she said.

The Sunshine Coast Airport prides ourself on our Customer Service Focus.  If you require assistance upon your arrival to the Airport please contact our delightful Airport Service Officers on 0419 658 829 within 24hours to arrange, alternatively you can request assistance upon arrival to the car park by pushing the help button at the entry gate.

PARKING

Disabled parking spaces are conveniently located within all car parks at the Sunshine Coast Airport.  Two spaces are situated in both the long term car parks, and 10 spaces are located at the front of the Short Term car park, all spaces allowing for easy access to the Terminal.

All blue and red disability permits are accepted in the disabled parking areas and must be displayed on the vehicle at all times while parked at the Sunshine Coast Airport.

TOILETS

Disabled toilets are located throughout the terminal building.  For passenger convenience, there are disabled toilets located in the departures hall near the Jetstar check in desks.  These toilets were recently installed as part of the Terminal Redevelopment project and have been installed using automated doors for easy use with walkers or wheel chairs.

Within the Departure Lounge additional disabled toilets are located near the Newstravels store and upon existing the terminal through the arrivals hall; more disabled toilets are located adjacent to the luggage carousels.

HEARING LOOP

To assist our hearing impaired customers, a hearing loop was included in the recent Terminal Redevelopment Project.  The hearing loop is designed to allow persons fitted with a hearing aid to be able to clearly hear any announcements made within the terminal.

For best results the hearing loop has been installed near the Rip Curl store.

Sunshine Coast Airport goes GREEN

Any regular traveller knows that comfort and being able to move around easily are the keys to a good travel experience - and to be able to do this with plenty of sunlight and a rainforest walk is even better.  The Sunshine Coast Airport now offers this right on your doorstep. When opening the redevelopment of the Airport terminal late 2009, Mayor Bob Abbot said significant improvements had boosted both the convenience factor for passengers and efficiency for airlines servicing the Sunshine Coast.

"Our vision to become Australia's most sustainable region is reflected in the design that incorporates the sustainability principals of reduce, reuse, recycle," Cr Abbot said.  "Council's $3.5 million investment in this project also demonstrates our ongoing support of the tourism industry through improvements to vital infrastructure that will help build our regional economy", he said.

Sunshine Coast Airport General Manager Peter Pallot said the first thing passengers and guests will notice is the new entrance to the departure lounge via the new rainforest walk to the security screening point.  From here there is access to shopping, food and beverage outlets, toilets and the outdoor observation area.

"The design incorporates green initiatives including plenty of natural light, use of natural materials and harvesting of rain for use on the gardens," Mr Pallot said.  "There is much less congestion now around the security screening point and once you are inside the secured area there are many new retail stores and food and beverage outlets to choose from.  All of this adds up to a more enjoyable and green travelling experience for residents and visitors."
