Terminal Redevelopment Project |
In 2009 Sunshine Coast Regional Council allocated $3.6 million to the redevelopment of the Sunshine Coast Airport terminal and departure lounge. The work which is now complete significantly enhances the travelling experience for all of the airport’s passengers, commuters, visitors and staff.
The redevelopment of the airport terminal is a component of Stage One of the Airport’s Master Plan which will ultimately deliver unprecedented economic benefits to the Sunshine Coast.
Designed to reflect the natural light and feel of the Sunshine Coast region, the new development incorporates a unique rainforest walk together with the creation of a Richmond Birdwing Butterfly habitat.
The redevelopment also includes additional amenities, an enlarged departure lounge, and a greater range of shops including the Sunshine Coast’s unique Jewellery Lounge and welcomes new operators Spotless and AWPL Retail Solutions who have established a number of retail, food and beverage outlets including Sumo Salad, Velluto Espresso Bar, The Glass House Bar, Rip Curl and News Travels, as well as a local operator from Mudjimba who has recently opened The Loaded Lizard coffee shop within the terminal. |

Car Park Extension |
|
Exiting the short term car park at the Airport could previously have been seen as a safety concern, with cars exiting both from the car park as well as the rental car drop off zone at the same point, feeding into the flow of traffic along the front of the terminal.
Works have now been completed on a new exit that has alleviated these concerns. Exiting cars are fed to an exit opposite that of Long Term Car Park 2. The new exit will allow a smooth transition back into the flow of traffic. |

Sites 26 and 27 |
|
Civil engineering works were completed in late October 2009 providing 2 new airside sites for lease at the northern end of the Airport. These new sites will provide an economic boost to the Airport.
Additionally a new tenant for site 1, Queensland Institute of Aviation Engineering will soon be calling the airport home after their move from Caloundra Aerodrome in early 2010.
