The ‘Gadget Guy’ is coming to town!
peter_blasinaSunshine Coast Libraries and Telstra will have a high profile in the community this year for seniors' week when Peter Blasina, the ‘Gadget Guy’ from Channel 7’s Sunrise TV program comes to town. Peter will attend the launch of seniors' week on Monday 16 August at Maroochydore Library, followed by a free workshop at Lake Kawana Community Centre where he will demonstrate to seniors how to use their mobile phones, plus other new technology. Stay Connected
Sunshine Coast Libraries, in conjunction with Telstra Connected Seniors will be conducting some educational sessions for seniors to learn more about how to use their mobile phones to 'stay connected'. The sessions will run from August to October and will include skills such as taking and sending photos from mobile phones, creating your own mail box or contact list and how to send and receive text messages. Guess who's coming to lunch

NAIDOC Week

To celebrate Naidoc Week, July 4-11, coast libraries are hosting free screenings of short films from the National Film and Sound Archives collection of contemporary indigenous films, Black Screen Films. The films, including B.L.A.C.K, Road Home, Your brother My Tidda, Auntie Connie and Shifting Shelter introduce Aboriginal voice in hip hop, ‘Coming out’ to a family living with HIV and religion, life at Kinchela Boys' Home, healing old wounds in nuclear relationships, as well as the highly regarded documentary by Ivan Sen who recorded the lives of four Indigenous teenagers growing up in small towns in north-western NSW. Join us as we commend the works of indigenous artists and celebrate Naidoc Week in Film. More info...

Fred Hollows in Living Memory

Sunshine Coast Libraries will host a touring exhibition that celebrates the life and work of the late Professor Fred Hollows. Join the Friends of the Library for an opening evening of wine and cheese at Maleny Library on Wednesday 7 July at 6pm. Sue Larsen from the Queensland Chapter will give a talk about the Foundation. Cost is a gold coin donation to the foundation. Exhibition open to the public for free at Maleny Library until 20 July, then at Maroochydore Library 23 July - 9 August. More info...

Stress Down SlipperWe're digging out the flannies, dusting off our crazy slippers and fluffing up our PJs on Friday 23 July for Lifeline's Stress Down Day. We'd love for you to show your support by taking 30 seconds and making a small online donation here, where you can also check out a picture of Noosa staff in their PJs at last year's Stress Down Day. Or you can purchase a pair of crazy slippers in support.
