Council stands with community on quarry
|
Council plans to engage a barrister to review details of the Kin Kin Quarry approval (QMP).
Seeking a barrister’s legal opinion and continuing to lobby the Department of Transport and Main Roads on road safety are the cornerstone of Council’s support to the community in the battle to reduce truck movements at the quarry.
Mayor Clare Stewart said the quarry approval was put in place in 1987 and three decades on, operations have clearly exceeded initial expectations.
“We need a thorough review to see what can be done under law to either retract, rescind or change the approval,” she said.
Council continues to facilitate a regular roundtable discussion with community members, Police, Quarry operators, Noosa MP Sandy Bolton and Council staff. Read more.

Motion supported
|
Queensland councils have rallied behind a Noosa Council motion that could potentially save Noosa ratepayers millions of dollars.
For years, councils across Queensland have had to foot much of the bill to defend their decisions to refuse planning applications, even though the proposed development may have been in significant conflict with the town plan.
Noosa Council tabled a motion at the annual Local Government Association of Queensland (LGAQ) Conference, seeking a review. Read more.

Spotlight on dumping
|
Information from residents is helping Council nab offenders who treat Noosa’s parks, bushland and other public areas as their personal rubbish tip. Council staff have issued more than $7000 worth of fines for illegal dumping recently.
Information such as a description of the offender and the make, model and registration number of the vehicle are all useful.
You can report illegal dumping by calling (07) 5329 6500.
