Queen's Baton Relay route announced

Residents can now start planning their Queen’s Baton Relay festivities with the release of local route information and community event details.
The Baton will arrive in Noosa on March 26 next year, ahead of the XXI Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast.
Departing Tewantin’s Read Park it will follow a seven-kilometre course through Tewantin, along the river’s edge and on to Noosa Parade toward Hastings Street.
From Hastings Street, the baton will travel along Main Beach to reach its final destination, Noosa Heads Surf Club.
More than 30 local residents will carry the baton, including 13-year-old Alfie Shacklock, pictured with mum Sandy. Alfie said he was very excited to take part. Read more.

Garden bins welcomed
|
Council has praised residents for putting their new garden waste recycling bins to use so quickly.
Around 10,000 new bins have been delivered across urban parts of the shire, with around 80% of households already filling them up each fortnight.

Snap it, send it, solve it!
|
Reporting a pothole, graffiti and other issues that need attention can now be done via a handy smartphone app – Snap Send Solve.
Locals can use the app to snap a picture and send details of the issue that needs attention to Council's customer service team at the touch of a button.

Boost for local projects
|
Council has approved more than $150,000 for a wide range of community groups and projects.
The latest Community Grants round supports more than 20 recipients across four categories – programs, events, equipment and infrastructure.
Council’s Community Development Manager Alison Hamblin said an electric vehicle expo to encourage sustainable transport uptake was among the exciting projects given a boost. Read more.

Animals bridge age gap
|
Council facilities have teamed up to bring locals from both ends of the age spectrum together in the name of fun.
Kids that take part in Noosa Leisure Centre activities spent time with Noosa Community Support’s aged care clients on November 20, for a visit by Old Macdonald’s Travelling Farms. Childcare Centre Busy Bees also took part in the fun.
Research shows that when children and older adults spend time together both generations benefit. Read more.
