Council’s 2015/2016 capital works program is on target, with more than $12.1 million worth of projects now under way. 

Work has started on the Munna Point bridge rehabilitation, Pomona’s Rifle Street flood mitigation works, a shire-wide road reseal program, Sunrise Beach school crossing improvements and a major upgrade of Dr Pages Road. Read more.

Plan to be disaster-ready this summer

Noosa’s Disaster Coordination Centre Chair Bob Abbot is urging residents to develop bushfire, storm and flood survival plans for their households ahead of summer.

It comes as Noosa’s Local Disaster Management Group took part in Operation Firestorm, a scenario-based emergency response exercise. Read more.

Study reveals dramatic drop in river's oyster stocks

An expert study of the Noosa River system’s past fish stocks suggests declines in several important species.

The study by University of Queensland’s Dr Ruth Thurstan confirms the oyster industry collapsed around 80 years ago, and prawn catches have shown significant fluctuations over the past 50 years. The findings reinforce the value of an oyster reef rehabilitation trial. Read more.

Draft economic plan now open for comment

There is still time to provide comment on Noosa’s draft Local Economic Plan. It sets out strategies to broaden Noosa’s economy and outlines Noosa’s competitive advantages and important growth industries.

The community can view and comment on the draft plan, online, until 4 December. Read more.

Gallery launches inaugural Lyn McCrea Memorial Drawing Prize

Noosa Regional Gallery has launched the Lyn McCrea Memorial Drawing Prize.

Established in memory of local arts supporter and gallery volunteer Lyn McCrea, the annual art prize promotes excellence in contemporary Australian drawing. Read more.

Council approves flying fox management plan

Noosa Council has signed off on a flying fox management plan aimed at providing some relief for residents living near the Wallace Park bat colony.

Council will selectively clear 10 metre separation areas between vegetation and property boundaries, in consultation with stakeholders, to increase the distance between homes and flying foxes. Read more.

Council updates Noosa's planning scheme

Noosa Council has made changes to the planning scheme to ensure it’s up to date.

Noosa Mayor Noel Playford said the amendments would update elements of the nine-year-old planning scheme until Council starts work on a new scheme in 2016. Read more.
