Decision paves the way for larger Noosa events
|
Council has given Noosa’s larger events a green light.
Mayor Clare Stewart said bringing Council’s event approval guidelines into line with the state’s COVID-safe event framework would enable Noosa’s usual annual events to proceed.
“Bear in mind that for a Category One event to proceed - which is over 10,000 people - the event organisers need sign-off from the Chief Health Officer, Dr Jeannette Young,” the Mayor said.
“We need a COVID-safe event plan from a public health unit for Category Two events, and Category Three events need their own COVID-safe event checklist, so there are absolute checks and balances in place to minimise risk.”
The Mayor said the decision would be welcome news to organisers of events that had been facing an uncertain future.
“This is very much in line with the state government framework for COVID-safe events.
“We must, in this instance, swim in our lane.
“We are not the specialists when it comes to health, that is the state’s jurisdiction and we should follow their guidelines. Our decision here today did just that.”
