Council looks to purchase Johns Landing

Noosa Council is in talks to buy Johns Landing to secure the significant environmental values of the site for future generations.
Johns Landing includes almost half a kilometre of Noosa River foreshore and is home to ‘endangered’ and ‘of concern’ vegetation. It is mapped as potential koala habitat and is part of a much bigger wildlife corridor that runs beside the Noosa River between Lake Cootharaba and Lake Cooroibah.
“Purchasing this land is consistent with Council’s long-term strategy of acquiring environmentally sensitive land on the Noosa River as these land holdings become available,” Noosa Mayor Tony Wellington said. Read more.

Green Army graduation

The latest Green Army team to help support Noosa Bushland Care groups' war on weeds have earned their stripes.
The nine participants have spent the past 23 weeks removing environmental weeds from Noosa’s bushland reserves.
Noosa Council Natural Areas Officer Michael Lyons said the group of 17-24-year-olds – the third Green Army team to join conservation efforts in Noosa since 2014 – had shown great enthusiasm. Read more.

Skate park first for Noosa

The Sunshine Beach Skate Park upgrade will deliver the shire's first enclosed skate bowl.
It’s among a list of elements skaters asked for during last year’s community consultation.

Learning at the landfill

School students are touring Council’s Eumundi-Noosa Road landfill and resource recovery centre to learn about recycling and see what happens to their rubbish.
They learn how e-waste, such as televisions and computer equipment, is recycled, how green waste is turned into mulch, and how Council captures and flares methane gas from the landfill to reduce its impact on the environment. Read more.
