Council joins pledge to tackle climate change

Noosa Council has joined more than 30 councils across Australia in a new initiative to slash emissions and tackle worsening climate change.
The Climate Council’s Cities Power Partnership (CPP) aims to transform Australia’s energy future.
It offers Australian councils actionable, realistic, and effective methods to encourage clean energy technology, energy efficiency, sustainable transport and other climate solutions at a local level.
Mayor Tony Wellington, pictured with Douglas Shire Mayor Julia Leu at the CPP launch, said it was “an absolute no-brainer for Noosa Council to jump on board”. Read more.

Innovative road surface trial
|
By trialling a new road surface made from waste products, Council has kept more than 6,500 old car tyres out of landfill, recycled more than 10 tonnes of glass, and utilised the toner from over 1 million used printer cartridges.
85 percent of the 2016-17 road resurfacing program received the environmentally-friendly asphalt and spray seal products - that means 27.2kms out of the total of 31.4kms sealed in the financial year. Read more.

Road fix almost complete
|
Work on a $600,000 project to stabilise a landslip-prone section of Black Mountain Road is almost complete.
Council’s work crews have reinforced the slope, near Eungella Drive, with more than 2000 cubic metres of rock.
The road itself has also been moved three to four metres out from the hillside. Read more.

Comment on CHAP in August
|
Council is preparing a draft Coastal Hazards Adaptation Plan (CHAP) and is inviting residents to come along to have their say at an informal information session and workshop.
The session is open to the whole community. It will be held on Saturday 5 August between 9.30am and 11am at the Noosa Leisure Centre.
It is important Noosa is prepared and able to take steps to adapt to future climate related changes such as coastal erosion and flooding from stormtides. Read more.
