Court win protects sensitive coastal dune site
|
Council has won a court battle to prevent significant vegetation clearing on sensitive coastal dunes at Castaways Beach.
The Court backed Council’s stance on a six-lot subdivision proposed for the site at 2 David Low Way, on the coastal side of the road.
“Development of the scale proposed would have seen the loss of significant sensitive vegetation, which plays an important role protecting the dunes from erosion,” Acting Planning Director Kerri Coyle said.
“The proposal also stood to erode the character of the area, by replacing the view – from the road – of vegetation and the ocean beyond, with a view of rooftops." Read more.
It’s the second appeal Council has defended in the Planning and Environment Court and won recently. The court also upheld Council’s decision to prevent 14 purpose-built holiday houses on Noosa North Shore from being occupied as permanent residences. Read more.
Both planning applications were in conflict with Noosa's planning scheme.
