Council to revisit Noosa River Plan
|
Noosa Council will update the Noosa River Plan and broaden its scope to include the whole catchment.
“Given the community’s concern about the way the River is managed, plus the advice of our recent community jury, it is time to revisit the Noosa River Plan. We need to ensure it is up to date and relevant,” said Councillor Brian Stockwell.
There will be plenty of opportunity throughout that process for residents and stakeholders to have a say.
A key aim of an updated River Plan will be protection of water quality, including consideration of both land-based and on-river activities. That will include rehabilitation and conservation of tributary habitats, plus a focus on wetlands and marine plants. Read more.

Looking out for koalas
|
Council is assisting a range of scientists and conservation agencies in a quest to conserve Noosa’s koala population, with numerous projects now underway across the Shire.
"One project is researching the movements, health and threats to local koalas. Another one is ‘ground-truthing’ where koalas are living in the shire, as well as checking on their health. A third project is carrying out a koala infrastructure audit," says Council’s environment officer Tyron de Kauwe. Read more.

Landfill improvements
|
Council has its sights on the Eumundi-Noosa Road landfill in its quest to achieve zero emissions.
An audit of facilities and operations showed that the landfill accounted for almost half of Council’s annual greenhouse gas emissions. But recent improvements to the facility will significantly reduce its environmental impact.
“Our waste contractor has recapped a section of completed landfill to prevent any methane gas escaping the closed cell,” Waste Manager Wayne Schafer says. Read more.
