Noosa Council has formally signed off on Noel Playford's budget, one the mayor says will help restore Noosa's roads and infrastructure to the much higher levels it was used to before amalgamation.
But the mayor said the focus wasn't just on infrastructure and better services. "We're massively increasing spending on the basics like roads" he said, "but we're also setting up Noosa to be truly world class in the way it allows the community to participate in the local decisions that affect their lives". Noosa Shire will soon be safer from flooding, with the announcement of major flood mitigation work in Tewantin and Pomona and more planned for Cooroy.
Three tiers of government came together for the joint announcement last week at Daintree Estate in Tewantin, one of the areas hardest hit by the deluge in February 2012.
Deputy Prime Minister and member for Wide Bay, Warren Truss, Member for Noosa, Glen Elmes and Noosa Mayor Noel Playford joined forces for what they described as "a strong display of the three tiers of government working together to protect local communities". Read more. |

Council chips in to promote responsible pet ownership |

Noosa Council is partnering with the RSPCA by contributing $12,000 towards a campaign promoting responsible pet ownership.
“Operation Wanted” is a de-sexing and micro-chipping campaign aimed at reducing the number of unwanted kittens, puppies and older animals that are left unclaimed in shelters and pounds every year.
The Noosa campaign forms part of a targeted approach which is also occurring in eight other regions across the state to address the unwanted animal problem. Council is pleased with the support provided by all of Noosa's veterinarians who have offered their services for a 20% discount off the usual cost to de-sex and micro-chip animals.
Residents are urged to visit their local vet clinic and take advantage of this generous offer which is available until 31 August 2014.

Two high profile Noosa issues will get an airing this month when Mayor Noel Playford and Member for Noosa, Glen Elmes meet the State Transport Minister, Scott Emerson.
At their latest regular, monthly meeting, the two Noosa community leaders agreed on the next step in efforts to remove the unsightly houseboat hulks from Noosa River, and to push on with the dream of free, electric buses for Noosa.
Both issues will be raised when the Mayor and Local Member meet with the Transport Minister on the 23rd of this month. Read more |
