FIVE STAR ENERGY RATING APPLIES TO UNITS

As of 1st March 2010 all new units are required to be built to a five-star (out of 10) energy equivalent rating.

This follows the introductin of the star rating to new houses, townhouses and major renovations on 1 March 2009.

A energy rating for a house is determined by the design of its building 'shell' - roof, walls, windows, and floors. More stars indicate a more energy efficient house that will remain comfortable with less need for cooling and heating.

An energy equivalence rating does not take into consideration the fixtures and appliances of a property, such as hot water systems, air-conditioners, lighting and frdges.

By the end of 2010 we might see the introduction of a six-star rating.

RTA on the Move

The Residential Tenancies Authority (RTA) has moved from its Herschel Street premises of 10 years to new offices located at level 23, 179 Turbot Street, Brisbane.


Foreign Investment in Queensland RESIDENTIAL PROPERTY

After four years of increases of spending by foreigners in Queensland there has been a decline in 2008/09 in property spending to only $407,657,433.

United Kingdom has been the largest foreign purchases of residential property in Queensland for the 2008/09 financial year spending $68,192,307 but this is $38 million less than the amount spent in the previous year by UK buyers. 

Gold Coast had the most foreign spending in 2008/09 which consisted of 45% and Moreton Bay only had 3%.


PETSMART PROGRAM

Moreton Bay Regional Council is holding a K9 Clubhouse activities at Petrie on Sunday 18th April 2010 at Sweeney Reserve, Houghton Street, Petrie.

Trained officers will provide advice to help residents manage problems they face with their pets and will offering microchipping at a discounted price. 

What to bring... Hat, drink, poo bags, registration tag, dogs on lead and cats in a secure cage.

Cost (includes microchip, submission to National Pet Registry and Council registration if required):-

  • $10.00 registered dogs (please bring tags)
  • $22.50 unregistered dogs
  • $20.00 unregistered dogs (concession)
  • $10.00 cats

Local Council News
  • New Water Services Business will be called "Unity Water" which will commence operating 1st July
  • Recycle Bin stickers are now available from Redcliffe District office if yours are worn, faded or missing.  The sticker shows what can be placed in your recycle bin.
  • Mosquito Update - the Council has extensively treated areas including around Redcliffe since Christmas due to high rainfall and king tides. This includes both aerial and ground treatments.
  • QLD Government is to release the new Moreton Bay Region wide valuations this month.  Used as a base for setting the rates for 2010/11.
